Prone Breast System
"We recently started an Electronic Brachytherapy program for APBI using the XOFT Micro X-Ray Tube. We currently have a patient under treatment with this modality that, without your prone breast board, we would have been unable to treat.
After having her lumpectomy and the intracavitary balloon placed, she was CT’d at our center. Due to the balloon’s proximity to her chest wall, we were going to have to abort her treatment. However, we decided to see if she could lie in our prone breast board to help with her geometry. The prone breast board worked BEAUTIFULLY. Not only were we able to treat this woman, we greatly improved her plan dosimetrically – with lower rib and skin doses.
Your prone breast board allowed this patient to get treatment. I was very excited when this worked and I didn’t have to send the patient home – the PBB gives us a useful option."

"What I can share about the set up is just like any other breast set up you must pick a stable point and do your shifts, we find that the midline spine is the most stable and then we shift according to isodose plan. It is important that the isocenter is set correctly and that it is not moved, if we need to we will move the breast without moving the patient to make sure there is flash according to the isodose plan. We have done port films daily to assure that the set up is correct and our physician is very happy with the films."

"We have continued to use the prone breast board. We will monitor our patient for any adverse skin reaction in the medial field. I am impressed with the reproducibility on the prone board. We picked a good candidate physically.”
“We used lateral levelers with a midline PA reference point which was also referenced to the prone board. We make digital shifts to iso daily. Images have been consistent over the first week of treatment. I will let you know how things progress."

"We really like working with the Bionix Klarity Thermoplastic Masks, they conform better, less give and are not as flimsy as some of the other manufacturers of thermoplastic products. The patients do not have as much trouble fitting into the mask, after the initial making of the mask They seem to be more comfortable for the patient to tolerate especially on the long IMRT treatments.
